As early as the 17th century, the numerous clearings and forest meadows of the Hohne area were used for grazing and Count Heinrich Ernst zu Stolberg had a simple shelter built for his shepherds in 1668.

In September 1805, Baron Joseph von Eichendorff visited the “Count of Stolberg’s Meyerhof” on a hike, which was considered a resting place for Brocken pilgrims at the time.

The first forestry office was established in the middle of the 19th century and remained the headquarters of the Hohne district forestry office until 2004. After the transfer to the Harz National Park, the conversion to the HohneHof Nature Experience Center could begin, which was officially opened in 2011.

The HohneHof sees itself as a link and mediator between cultural landscape and wilderness. Here, bridges are built between opposites — between legends, myths, historical forms of life and use on the one hand and natural dynamics, biodiversity and wilderness on the other.

The national park rangers provide information about the special features of the national park and also offer fairytale hikes through the “legendary mountain wilderness”. The dandelion discovery trail is particularly popular with the youngest visitors in the immediate vicinity of the HohneHof. On this hands-on trail, you can explore nature alone or accompanied by our rangers at eight stations.

Our visitor café offers you a small selection of food and drinks and invites you to relax and refresh yourself in a cozy atmosphere while the children go on an adventure tour in the extensive grounds.

There are many popular hiking destinations around the HohneHof. Depending on your fitness level, you can choose longer or shorter circular routes, e.g. the Leistenklippe HWN 15 or the Ottofelsen HWN 27.
