Most Beautiful Stamp Location 2026

This year, HWN 159—Stöberhai —was vot­ed the most beau­ti­ful stamp­ing site of 2026. 

At about 720 meters above sea lev­el, the Stöber­hai is the high­est moun­tain in the South­ern Harz region, locat­ed in the Göt­tin­gen dis­trict between Wie­da and the Oder Dam.

In 1872, the first sin­gle-sto­ry inn was built on the moun­tain­top. After a fire destroyed the inn—which had been expand­ed in 1886—the Bergho­tel Stöber­hai was built in 1889 with an obser­va­tion tow­er, mak­ing it the high­est hotel in the Harz Moun­tains after the Brock­en. The obser­va­tion tow­er offered a panoram­ic view of all parts of the Harz Moun­tains, stretch­ing as far as the Kyffhäuser and the Thuringian For­est. In March 1980, the obser­va­tion tow­er also fell vic­tim to a major fire and was not rebuilt.

Today, there is a moun­tain hut on the edge of the sum­mit plateau—with views of St. Andreas­berg, the Oder Val­ley, the Achter­mannshöhe, the Wurm­berg, and the Brocken.
