Dam wall in the forest with surrounding trees

The Trautenstein branch of the Harzklub has set up a bench in front of the stamp box. From there you have a wonderful view of the 24 meter high and 134 meter long dam wall. Pre-dams are used to pre-clean the water of debris and turbidity. The water is dammed up in the pre-dams and then flows through the overflows into the stream and on into the main dam.

The best starting point is the hiking parking lot in the center of Trautenstein. Follow the signposts of the Harzklub branch association along the right bank of the Rappbode and after a short climb you will reach the Trageburg HWN 52. From there you hike on the Harzer Hexenstieg over the dam wall, follow the wide forest path to the right and after a short climb you will reach the stamping station.
