Stamping point 161 / Stephanshütte

The Stephanshütte (620 m above sea level) is located between the Ravensberg near Bad Sachsa and the Stöberhai above Wieda.

The hut was named after Heinrich von Stephan (1831 — 1897), the postmaster general of the German Empire. He was the originator of numerous improvements in the postal system, including the invention of the “postcard”. Stephan founded the “Universal Postal Union” in 1874, which covered Europe and large parts of Asia, Africa and America.

Heinrich von Stephan was a guest at the Berghotel Ravensberg for many years and enjoyed the Harz forests.

The starting point is the parking lot at Dreiherrenstein on Ravensbergstraße. From there, you can reach Stephanshütte without any major inclines and continue the hike to Stöberhai from there.
