Stamp point 72 / La Viershöhe

La Viershöhe (478 m above sea level) is located above the Bode Valley, very close to the Hexentanzplatz.

From La Viershöhe, you have an outstanding view of the Bode Valley and the rocks towering behind it. The bizarre rock formations are best seen in early spring, when the green vegetation does not yet obscure the view. If you then see a few birds of prey circling over the gorge in search of food, you will understand why the Bode Valley was declared a nature reserve back in March 1937.

The name of the hill commemorates the head forester La Viers, who was the highest-ranking forestry official for the Harz forest areas in the 19th century. La Viers may have come from a Huguenot family. As he often hunted in the Bode Valley, he recognized the beauty of this landscape early on and encouraged the creation of hiking trails for tourists.

You can reach La Viershöhe from Hexentanzplatz via a signposted path, which also leads to Prinzensicht HWN 70 as a continuation of the hike.
