For many centuries, the Trogfurther Bridge over the River Bode was an important part of the trade route from Italy via the Harz Mountains to Scandinavia. A ford was first mentioned here in 919 as the “Trogweg”.

The Trogfurther Bridge was built around 1740 from quarry stones, which probably came from a Susenburg fortress tower. A few days before the end of the Second World War, this bridge was blown up by the SS on 14.04.1945.

The successor structure, a bridge made of reinforced concrete and wood, became superfluous after the construction of the spillway dam was completed on 24.08.1956. The dam, which is also used today to cross the Bode, is located a few meters east of the former Trogfurther Bridge.
