Stop 2: June 16–August 15, 2026, Hüttengrund, Eisleben

The Hüt­ten­grund, now a qui­et val­ley rich in nat­ur­al beau­ty, was an impor­tant smelt­ing site in the 15th and 16th cen­turies, where sil­ver and cop­per were extract­ed from cop­per-bear­ing ore. The land­scape is now char­ac­ter­ized by orchard mead­ows and over­grown, near­ly untouched smelt­ing sites. 

These late-medieval relics are among the very rare and valu­able arti­facts doc­u­ment­ing the min­ing his­to­ry of the Mans­feld region.
