Station 3: August 16–October 15, 2026 Planting in honor of Johann Georg von Langen, Braunlage

Johann Georg von Lan­gen (1699–1776) rev­o­lu­tion­ized sil­vi­cul­ture by estab­lish­ing sys­tem­at­ic plant­i­ngs. He plant­ed conifers (spruce, fir, larch) as well as maple trees. Sus­tain­able forestry began with him. As part of a school project in 2004, sil­ver firs were plant­ed, with pota­toes grow­ing between the rows of trees. Just as in 1748, when von Lan­gen intro­duced for­est-field cul­ti­va­tion in Braun­lage, the pota­toes served for the first time to feed the local pop­u­la­tion. This plant­i­ng sym­bol­izes the renew­al of the for­est through planned reforestation.

A good start­ing point is the free park­ing lot behind the tourist infor­ma­tion office. From there, the trail leads past the indoor swim­ming pool and along Ram­sen­weg for about 1.5 kilo­me­ters to the “Wan­dern­der Stempel.”

Alter­na­tive­ly, you can take a detour to the Von-Lan­gen Mon­u­ment at Stein­sklippe in the upper spa park. From here, you’ll enjoy a fan­tas­tic view of Braun­lage. From the mon­u­ment, the 5.3‑kilometer Von-Lan­gen Loop Trail leads to the “Wan­dern­der Stem­pel,” which you’ll reach after about 1.8 kilometers.
