The Hüttengrund, now a quiet valley rich in natural beauty, was an important smelting site in the 15th and 16th centuries, where silver and copper were extracted from copper-bearing ore. The landscape is now characterized by orchard meadows and overgrown, nearly untouched smelting sites.
These late-medieval relics are among the very rare and valuable artifacts documenting the mining history of the Mansfeld region.
