Stamp point 83 / Austbergturm

The Austberg stands on a ridge between Benzingerode and Wernigerode.

Built in 1250 by the Counts of Regenstein, the Austberg Tower served as a signal tower for the Regenstein defense system. It was extensively restored in 2006–2008, fitted with a roof and weather vane and opened as a viewing tower.

From the platform you have a beautiful view of Benzingerode, the Regenstein, Heimburg with the Altenburg and the Brocken.

The best starting point is the parking lot at the church in Benzingerode. From there, you can first climb the Stapenberg HWN 33 via signposted hiking trails and then continue the tour via the Austbergturm to Altenburg HWN 84.
