Stamping point 202 / Degenershausen Landscape Park

The Degenershausen Landscape Park is located between the “Gartenhaus” parking lot — from where you can reach Falkenstein Castle — and the Falkenstein district of Wieserode.

The landscape park began in 1834 when the district councillor Johann Christian Degener gave the area between Neuplatendorf and the Falkenstein Castle nursery to his daughter as a wedding present. This gift was linked to the condition that the area be named “Degenershausen”.

In 1835, Johann Christian Degener had the manor house and the associated farm buildings built and the park laid out. After his death, a striking cast-iron obelisk was erected in his honor, but had to be demolished in 1968 due to severe damage. In 1993, it was rebuilt in its old position as part of the extensive renovation of the park. The burial place of the von Bodenhausen-Degener family has been located on a hill near the pond since 1918.

The park has undergone many changes over the years and has existed in its current form since 1924. Today, the park covers an area of twelve hectares and is home to more than 175 species and genera of native and non-native trees and shrubs. The spacious grounds with well-tended individual trees, groups of trees and flowering meadows (with thousands of crocuses and daffodils in spring) offer visitors plenty of space for rest and relaxation.

The park is crossed by 2.8 km of paths, which are of course also suitable for wheelchair users. During the tour of the park, you can get an overview of selected trees and shrubs with the help of a “park guide” (flyer). A small pond, where the stamping station is located, invites you to linger.

There is a visitor parking lot in front of the park directly on the road from “Gartenhaus” to Wieserode, from where you can explore the park.
