Stamping point 165 / Wendel — Eiche

The Wendeleiche is a vantage point between Zorge and Sülzhayn.

The oak owes its name to a spiral staircase that was built at the beginning of the 20th century to reach the viewing platform erected in the crown of the oak. As the oak was only a few meters away from the former inner-German border, the GDR border troops rebuilt the spiral staircase and the viewing platform. Today, only two rusty iron structures remain as reminders of the spiral staircase.

From the parking lot at the Kurhaus in Zorge, the signposted Bergwiesenweg trail leads via the Wendeleiche to Stiefmutter HWN 164, from where you can also easily include the “Roter Schuss” HWN 90 stamping station in the tour.
