Stamping point 113 / Grumbacher Teich

The lower Grumbach pond is located between Hahnenklee-Bockswiese and Wildemann in the Großer Dreckstal.

The ponds around Clausthal-Zellerfeld, Hahnenklee and Wildemann are not naturally formed bodies of water, but are part of the Upper Harz Water Regal. They were created by Harz miners in earlier centuries in order to always have sufficient water available in summer and winter to operate the numerous water wheels. The water was fed to its place of use through artificial ditch systems.

There are a total of four “Grumbach Ponds” between the old mountain towns of Wildemann and Hahnenklee. The Lower and Upper Grumbach Ponds were built before 1680. The Middle Pond was built after 1680. The fourth New Grumbach Pond was added after 1714.

The Grumbach pond was voted the most beautiful stamp site in 2012 by our hiking friends.

The parking lot at Kuttelbacher Teich on the road from Lautenthal to Bockswiese is a good starting point to get from the opposite side of the road via the Drecktal to the stamping station in the refuge of the Harzklub branch Wildemann.
