Stamp point 77 / Luisenburg ruins

The Luisenburg ruins (352 m above sea level) are located south of Blankenburg behind the Great Castle in the direction of the sawmill pond on an elongated sandstone ridge.

The Luisen­burg was built in 1728 as a look­out cas­tle for Duchess Chris­tine Luise and named after her. It was a sin­gle-storey half-tim­bered build­ing with an octag­o­nal hall sur­round­ed by 8 small rooms. The build­ing was demol­ished in 1945 due to dilap­i­da­tion. How­ev­er, remains of the walls and stairs still give an idea of its appearance. 

There is a view­ing pavil­ion on the Luisen­burg, to which the stamp box is also attached. From there you have an excel­lent view of the Blanken­burg dis­trict of Cattenstedt. 

The best start­ing point is the guest park­ing lot at the Small Cas­tle. From there, take the mid­dle path through the cas­tle park, climb­ing steadi­ly towards the large cas­tle and fol­low the sign­post­ed hik­ing trails from the for­mer horse stables. 

On the way back, you can vis­it the Great Cas­tle and then take the path down­hill from the view­ing plat­form to the Obere Müh­le inn. The stamp box Baroque Gar­dens HWN 78 is attached to the inn. You can return to the park­ing lot through the Baroque Gardens.
