Stamp point 170 / Rabenklippe

The Rabenklippe is located southeast of Bad Harzburg, high above the deeply incised and idyllic Eckertal valley.

The mighty stone blocks and towering granite cliffs exert a mystical attraction on visitors. The cliffs were “sleeping beauty” when the first spa doctor, Dr. Carl Franke, persuaded his former landlord, the carpenter Wilhelm Schilling, to open a small bar at the Rabenklippe.

May 24, 1874 he opened a stall made from birch trunks, which was initially only open on Sundays. His wife carried the drinks up the hill in a pannier. However, business was so good that the current Waldgasthaus was opened soon afterwards. From there you have a wonderful view over the Eckertal valley to the Taubenklippe and the Brocken.

The lynx viewing enclosure set up by the National Park on the Rabenklippe offers the opportunity to observe lynx. When the animals present themselves to visitors in the charming and rugged enclosure landscape, this guarantees spectacular photos. A high visitor platform provides a “fence-free” view of large parts of the enclosure.

Parking is available at the large parking lot in Bad Harzburg directly on the B4 towards Torfhaus. From there, you have to decide whether you want to climb the Burgberg on foot or take the cable car up the 150 meters to the top.

From the mountain station, you can take a circular hike to the “Aussichtsreich” HWN 121, the “Kreuz des deutschen Ostens” HWN 122, the Rabenklippe and back to the mountain station via the Molkenhaus HWN 169.
