Forest donation project in the Harz district

Die Harz­er Wälder sind lei­der nicht von den Wit­terung­sex­tremen der let­zten Jahre ver­schont geblieben. Dabei sind viele Wald­flächen im Land­kreis Harz beson­ders stark von dem fol­gen­den Borkenkäfer­be­fall, begün­stigt durch Trock­en­heit und Hitze, betrof­fen.
Im Rah­men des Wald­spende­pro­jek­ts als Gemein­schaft­sak­tion beste­hend aus dem Krisen­stab Wald des Land­kreis­es Harz sowie der Harz­er Wan­der­nadel und dem Harz­er Touris­musver­band, kon­nten bere­its 2 Wald­flächen erfol­gre­ich wieder­aufge­forstet werden.

Wald­spende­pro­jekt an der Plessen­burg
Das erste Wald­spende­pro­jekt in der Nähe der beliebten Waldgast­stätte Plessen­burg fand im Rah­men ein­er Crowd­fund­ing Aktion über das Por­tal 99Funken statt. Während des 3monatigen Spenden­zeitraums von Novem­ber 2021 bis Feb­ru­ar 2022 kon­nte die benötigte Summe von 22.500€ gesam­melt wer­den, sodass die 1,5 Hek­tar große Fläche erst beräumt und im Mai 2022 mit über 5.500 Set­zlin­gen aus Traubene­ichen, Berga­horn, Roterlen und weit­eren Bau­marten wieder­aufge­forstet wer­den kon­nte. Eine
Umzäu­nung soll die Set­zlinge abschließend gegen Wild­ver­biss schützen.

For­est dona­tion project at the Königshütte dam
The 6.5‑hectare area is locat­ed at the Königshütte dam and bor­ders the south­ern shore of the Harz­er-Hex­en-Stieg trail with the Harz­er Wan­der­nadel stamp­ing sta­tion 42. With the help of a gen­er­ous donor from the local econ­o­my, the pro­fes­sion­al and site-appro­pri­ate refor­esta­tion
into a mixed hard­wood for­est took place in spring 2023. After clear­ing the area, refor­esta­tion was car­ried out with sycamore maple, Euro­pean larch, bird cher­ry, hazel and small-leaved lime.

Planned for­est dona­tion project on the Stump Ridge in Ilsen­burg
The one-hectare area is locat­ed above the well-known “Ilses­tein” in the munic­i­pal for­est of the town of Ilsen­burg. The area offers a beau­ti­ful view of the Harz fore­land. The spruce stand was severe­ly weak­ened by the drought of recent years, infest­ed by the bark bee­tle and caused to die. The dam­aged wood was har­vest­ed at the end of 2022. The area is now being pre­pared for replant­i­ng
. The plan is to plant 4,000 red oaks, 2,000 ses­sile oaks, 1,000
win­ter lime trees, as well as some sweet chest­nuts and weep­ing cher­ries. Due to the high wildlife pop­u­la­tion, the area will then be fenced off.

Fur­ther munic­i­pal for­est areas, which are pub­licly acces­si­ble to all, are to fol­low suc­ces­sive­ly, so that the towns and munic­i­pal­i­ties in the Harz dis­trict are sup­port­ed in refor­esta­tion by the for­est dona­tion project.
