Stamping station 211 / Kiliansteiche

The Kiliansteiche reservoir is located between Straßberg and the Schindelbruch nature resort in the „Straßberger Wiesen“.

Originally, there was a reservoir cascade on the site of the dam, consisting of 4 ponds, one of which was mentioned in a document as early as 1610. From 1703, further Kilian ponds were built in connection with mining in Straßberg.

As two of the dams had already been broken in 1901 and 1944 respectively and the remaining one was in poor condition, the Saxony-Anhalt dam company built the Kiliansteich dam from 1989 to 1995 with a 25 m high and 210 m long rockfill dam.

Above the Kiliansteich dam, the Kiliansteich pre-dam was built with a 7 m high and 110 m long earth dam. The artificial Büschengraben, which originates from the Gräfingründer Teich and the Möllerteich, is dammed here. Both dams are used for flood protection, to raise low water levels and as a drinking water reserve.

The stamping station is located at the earth dam of the Kiliansteich reservoir and can be reached from both the Schindelbruch nature resort and the Auerberg vacation village via the hiking trails past the Frankenteich pond. From Straßberg, you can reach the two reservoirs through the Rödelbach valley past the Malinius pond.
