The site was pre\u00adpared by the ducal for\u00adest dis\u00adtrict admin\u00adis\u00adtra\u00adtion at the time. The par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly beau\u00adti\u00adful view of the Selke val\u00adley and the Ram\u00adberg mas\u00adsif was made pos\u00adsi\u00adble by defor\u00adesta\u00adtion. The Ram\u00adberg is the high\u00adest mas\u00adsif in the Low\u00ader Harz. Like the Brock\u00aden or the Oker gran\u00adite, this gran\u00adite mas\u00adsif was formed around 300 mil\u00adlion years&nbsp;ago.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The area between Harzgerode, Gern\u00adrode, G\u00fcn\u00adthers\u00adberge and Bal\u00adlen\u00adst\u00adedt belonged to the Duchy of Anhalt until 1918 and pre\u00advi\u00adous\u00adly to the Prin\u00adci\u00adpal\u00adi\u00adty of Anhalt-Bern\u00adburg until 1863. The East\u00adern Harz was already a&nbsp;pop\u00adu\u00adlar hik\u00ading des\u00adti\u00adna\u00adtion for Anhalt res\u00adi\u00addents at that time, which appar\u00adent\u00adly prompt\u00aded the K\u00f6then\u00ader Harz-fre\u00adunde to build this&nbsp;hut.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The eas\u00adi\u00adest start\u00ading point for a&nbsp;hike to the K\u00f6then\u00ader H\u00fctte is the small park\u00ading lot on the left-hand side of the coun\u00adtry road that leads from Harzgerode to M\u00e4gde\u00adsprung.
