The Oderte\u00adich was the largest dam in Ger\u00admany until the end of the 19th century.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The Oderte\u00adich was built to reli\u00adably sup\u00adply the water wheels of the Sankt Andreas\u00adberg mines with water via the Rehberg\u00ader Graben, even dur\u00ading dry peri\u00adods. Its capac\u00adi\u00adty was suf\u00adfi\u00adcient to bridge a&nbsp;dry peri\u00adod of around three months. It is the largest of all the Upper Harz ponds and still pow\u00aders sev\u00ader\u00adal hydro\u00adelec\u00adtric pow\u00ader sta\u00adtions in Sankt Andreas\u00adberg, in the Sam\u00adson mine and in the Sper\u00adrlut\u00adter\u00adtal valley.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The best start\u00ading point for a&nbsp;hike around the Oderte\u00adich is the park\u00ading lot on the road from Oder\u00adbr\u00fcck in the direc\u00adtion of Sonnenberg.<\/p>\n\n<p>We rec\u00adom\u00admend using the cir\u00adcu\u00adlar hik\u00ading trail set up by the Nation\u00adal Park Author\u00adi\u00adty and get\u00adting to know the beau\u00adti\u00adful nature around the Oderte\u00adich.
