The Scharfensteinklippe (698 m above sea level) is located southwest of Ilsenburg and southeast of the Eckertalsperre reservoir.<\/h2>\n\n

Around 1875, Count Otto zu Stol\u00adberg-Wernigerode had a forester\u2019s lodge built, which devel\u00adoped into a pop\u00adu\u00adlar rest stop for Brock\u00aden hik\u00aders and an excur\u00adsion restau\u00adrant with accom\u00admo\u00adda\u00adtion in the for\u00adest set\u00adtle\u00adment built around 1920.<\/p>\n\n

On April 11\/12, 1945, US troops occu\u00adpied the Schar\u00adfen\u00adstein with\u00adout a fight. They were relieved by the Red Army in July of that year. After the found\u00ading of the GDR in 1949 and the for\u00adma\u00adtion of the state forestry admin\u00adis\u00adtra\u00adtion, orga\u00adnized forestry was ini\u00adtial\u00adly resumed on the Scharfenstein. <\/p>\n\n

Due to its loca\u00adtion close to the bor\u00adder with Low\u00ader Sax\u00adony, the first wood\u00aden bar\u00adracks were built here in 1955. The old forester\u2019s lodge was demol\u00adished in 1960 and new bar\u00adracks were built for the GDR bor\u00adder troops in 1969. <\/p>\n\n

The bar\u00adracks were demol\u00adished in 2000 for the renat\u00adu\u00adra\u00adtion of the area in line with the nation\u00adal park and two years lat\u00ader the cur\u00adrent ranger sta\u00adtion with two log cab\u00adins was opened.<\/p>\n\n
