They are the result of an ancient method of cul\u00adti\u00adva\u00adtion in which they were always mowed and dried for hay from June 24th (St. John\u2019s Day) as valu\u00adable fod\u00adder for the win\u00adter. With the aban\u00addon\u00adment of agri\u00adcul\u00adture in the small Harz vil\u00adlages, the moun\u00adtain mead\u00adows also disappeared.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The Low\u00ader Sax\u00adony State Forestry Admin\u00adis\u00adtra\u00adtion has set itself the task of pre\u00adserv\u00ading these moun\u00adtain mead\u00adows, which are pro\u00adtect\u00aded by the EU. It main\u00adtains the exist\u00ading moun\u00adtain mead\u00adows through pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adal care and use and recul\u00adti\u00advates for\u00admer moun\u00adtain mead\u00adows by remov\u00ading trees and sub\u00adse\u00adquent main\u00adte\u00adnance. For exam\u00adple, over 2,000 trees were felled on the Hun\u00addert\u00admor\u00adgen\u00adwiese in 2005 and the mead\u00adow area was increased by 25&nbsp;hectares.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"http:\/\/www.landesforsten.de\">State Forests<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>From the park\u00ading lot at the Kurhaus in Zorge, the sign\u00adpost\u00aded Berg\u00adwiesen\u00adweg trail leads via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harzer-wandernadel.de\/en\/stamping-points\/overview-map\/stamping-point-165-wendel-eiche\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1209\">Wen\u00addele\u00adiche HWN 165<\/a> to the Stief\u00admut\u00adter.
