After the sup\u00adpres\u00adsion of the peas\u00adant upris\u00ading of 1525, rebel\u00adlious peas\u00adants from Thuringia moved to the Harz Moun\u00adtains, where the free\u00addom of the moun\u00adtains guar\u00adan\u00adteed them per\u00adson\u00adal safe\u00adty.<br>An iron smelt\u00ading works in Wie\u00adda is first doc\u00adu\u00adment\u00aded in 1562, the impor\u00adtance of which is close\u00adly linked to the extrac\u00adtion of iron ore from the Kirch\u00adberg vein in the Kas\u00adten\u00adtal val\u00adley. At the begin\u00adning of the 17th cen\u00adtu\u00adry, the high\u00adest blast fur\u00adnace in the Braun\u00adschweig-Blanken\u00adburg Harz region at the time was built with a&nbsp;height of 6.84&nbsp;meters.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The present church was con\u00adse\u00adcrat\u00aded in 1778 and at the same time the free-stand\u00ading bell tow\u00ader was erect\u00aded on the K\u00e4se\u00adberg oppo\u00adsite so that the bells could be heard through\u00adout the valley.<\/p>\n\n<p>In the 19th cen\u00adtu\u00adry, many peo\u00adple from Wie\u00adda emi\u00adgrat\u00aded to Amer\u00adi\u00adca, which led to the blast fur\u00adnace, which had been ren\u00ado\u00advat\u00aded in the mean\u00adtime, being demol\u00adished in 1863.
