His fol\u00adlow\u00aders, the Volk\u00admar broth\u00aders, lat\u00ader joined forces with the Cis\u00adter\u00adcians, who had split from the Bene\u00addic\u00adtine order in&nbsp;1098.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>It was these Cis\u00adter\u00adcians who built a&nbsp;small monastery right above the cave in the 12th cen\u00adtu\u00adry, which they named \u201cMichael\u00adstein\u201d after their patron saint. It was also at this time that the cave was con\u00advert\u00aded into a&nbsp;cave church. A&nbsp;short time lat\u00ader, how\u00adev\u00ader, the monastery was moved to its present loca\u00adtion at the begin\u00adning of the monastery grounds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The cave was exca\u00advat\u00aded by Bau\u00adrat Brinkmann in 1884\u201387. The cave had already been filled in so that it could only be entered by crawl\u00ading. Old mor\u00adtar plas\u00adter was still found on the walls and the skele\u00adtons of 3&nbsp;adults and 3&nbsp;chil\u00addren were found in front of a&nbsp;brick altar base. At the south entrance, 2&nbsp;carved con\u00adse\u00adcra\u00adtion cross\u00ades and a&nbsp;niche carved into the rock are reminders of the for\u00admer sacred function.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Aus\u00adgangspunkt ist der Park\u00adplatz am Kloster Michael\u00adstein, von welchem man zum drit\u00adten Klosterte\u00adich wan\u00addert, an dem sich die&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harzer-wandernadel.de\/stempelstellen\/uebersichtskarte\/stempelstelle-59-klostergrund-michaelstein\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"801\">HWN 59&nbsp;Kloster\u00adgrund Michael\u00adstein<\/a>&nbsp;befindet.<\/p>\n\n<p>From there, fol\u00adlow the sign\u00adpost\u00aded path to the Volk\u00admarskeller, past the memo\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal to the min\u00aders of the Volk\u00admar mine who died in an explo\u00adsives explo\u00adsion in 1893. The stamp\u00ading point is locat\u00aded direct\u00adly on the hik\u00ading trail next to an infor\u00adma\u00adtion board.
