This was intend\u00aded to improve the poor eco\u00adnom\u00adic sit\u00adu\u00ada\u00adtion of the min\u00ading towns of Clausthal, Zeller\u00adfeld and Alte\u00adnau.<br>With\u00adin two years, the plans became so con\u00adcrete that by the begin\u00adning of 1914, the 20-kilo\u00adme\u00adtre route from Clausthal Ost\u00adbahn\u00adhof via Bun\u00adten\u00adbock, Ler\u00adbach and Frei\u00adheit to Osterode had been marked out and tracks had already been cut through the forest.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Despite the enor\u00admous con\u00adstruc\u00adtion costs, the rail\u00adroad line was con\u00adsid\u00adered prof\u00aditable by many of those involved, which is hard\u00adly con\u00adceiv\u00adable today. The large dif\u00adfer\u00adence in alti\u00adtude between Bun\u00adten\u00adbock and Ler\u00adbach required three tun\u00adnels with lengths of 150, 300 and 550&nbsp;meters, nine viaducts up to 150&nbsp;meters long and 30&nbsp;meters high and eleven over\u00adpass\u00ades and under\u00adpass\u00ades along the tracks. The vil\u00adlages of Bun\u00adten\u00adbock, Ler\u00adbach and Frei\u00adheit were to have rail\u00adroad sta\u00adtions. From Clausthal-Ost sta\u00adtion, the line could have con\u00adtin\u00adued north to Hah\u00adnen\u00adklee if required.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The First World War put an end to the real\u00adiza\u00adtion of this planned rail\u00adroad line, which would have been com\u00adpa\u00adra\u00adble to the H\u00f6l\u00adlen\u00adtal\u00adbahn in the Black For\u00adest.
