The struc\u00adture is able to sup\u00adply water from the Hut\u00adtal val\u00adley to the Hirschler pond dur\u00ading low water and, con\u00adverse\u00adly, relieve it of excess water dur\u00ading high&nbsp;water.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>In the area of the Upper Harz Water Regal, a&nbsp;small basin or a&nbsp;small dam is referred to as an abyss. This basin is dammed up here by a&nbsp;wood\u00aden weir struc\u00adture, a&nbsp;so-called \u201cFehlschlag\u201d. It is con\u00adnect\u00aded to the Hirschler pond on the oth\u00ader side of the ridge by the Hut\u00adtal water\u00adcourse and com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adcates with it. Water from the Schwarzen\u00adberg and the Pol\u00adster\u00adberg lift house is fed into the weir from the Hut\u00adtaler Graben. Once the weir is dammed up, the water is passed through the Hut\u00adtal water\u00adcourse to the Hirschler pond. There it could be used to sup\u00adply pow\u00ader to the very pro\u00adduc\u00adtive Car\u00ado\u00adline and Dorothea pits.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Dur\u00ading high water, the weir\u2019s emer\u00adgency boards can be removed. The flow gra\u00addi\u00adent is then reversed and water from the Hirschler pond flows through the Hut\u00adtaler Wasser\u00adlauf and through the Hut\u00adtaler Wider\u00adwaage into the Hut\u00adtal and then on towards the S\u00f6se.
