It comes to light in three places over a&nbsp;length of 20&nbsp;kilo\u00adme\u00adters between Bal\u00adlen\u00adst\u00adedt in the south\u00adeast and Blanken\u00adburg in the north\u00adwest. It begins with the Gegen\u00adsteine north\u00adwest of Bal\u00adlen\u00adst\u00adedt and ends between Tim\u00admen\u00adrode and Blanken\u00adburg with the Ham\u00adburg coat of arms, the Hei\u00addel\u00adberg and the Grand\u00adfa\u00adther and Grand\u00admoth\u00ader cliffs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Due to its unusu\u00adal shape, many leg\u00adends and myths have grown up around the bizarre chain of rocks. Fas\u00adci\u00adnat\u00aded by the geol\u00ado\u00adgy of the Teufels\u00admauer, Goethe also vis\u00adit\u00aded the leg\u00adendary sand\u00adstone wall in&nbsp;1784.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>The leg\u00adend of the Dev\u00adil\u2019s&nbsp;Wall<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"bodytext\">It is said that the dev\u00adil once sug\u00adgest\u00aded to the Lord God that the world should be divid\u00aded up between them. To this end, the dev\u00adil want\u00aded to build a&nbsp;great wall to sep\u00ada\u00adrate the two realms. The Lord God agreed, but made it a&nbsp;con\u00addi\u00adtion that he had to com\u00adplete it in one night by the first cockcrow.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"bodytext\">A farmer\u2019s wife, who want\u00aded to sell her roost\u00ader at the mar\u00adket, passed by the place where the dev\u00adil was doing his work one night. When she saw him, she was fright\u00adened, stum\u00adbled and the cock began to crow. The dev\u00adil then thought he had\u00adn\u2019t made it and destroyed the almost fin\u00adished&nbsp;wall.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p class=\"bodytext\">From the \u201cTeufels\u00admauer\u201d park\u00ading lot between Nein\u00adst\u00adedt and Warn\u00adst\u00adedt, a&nbsp;sign\u00adpost\u00aded path leads along the Bode and on to the stamp\u00ading&nbsp;point.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"bodytext\">The <strong>Dev\u00adil\u2019s Wall Trail<\/strong> leads from west to east past the towns of Blanken\u00adburg, Tim\u00admen\u00adrode, Warn\u00adst\u00adedt, Thale, Wed\u00adder\u00adsleben, Nein\u00adst\u00adedt, Bad Sud\u00aderode, Gern\u00adrode, Rieder and Bal\u00adlen\u00adst\u00adedt, touch\u00ading all the strik\u00ading rock for\u00adma\u00adtions of the Dev\u00adil\u2019s Wall along the&nbsp;way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prob\u00ada\u00adbly the most strik\u00ading part of the Devil\u2019s Wall is locat\u00aded south of Wed\u00adder\u00adsleben and stretch\u00ades as far as Warn\u00adst\u00adedt.
