On Novem\u00adber 2, 1913, the loca\u00adtion was deter\u00admined and the \u201cWork\u00ading Com\u00admit\u00adtee for the Erec\u00adtion of a&nbsp;Bis\u00admar\u00adck Mon\u00adu\u00adment on the Stahls\u00adberge near Bal\u00adlen\u00adst\u00adedt\u201d was found\u00aded under the chair\u00adman\u00adship of Dis\u00adtrict Direc\u00adtor Dr. Knorr. Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor Wil\u00adhelm Kreis from D\u00fcs\u00adsel\u00addorf was also cho\u00adsen as the archi\u00adtect of the Bis\u00admar\u00adck Tow\u00ader, as Kreis had already designed sev\u00ader\u00adal award-win\u00adning tow\u00aders, such as the \u201cTwi\u00adlight of the Gods\u201d design. He designed the tow\u00ader as an obser\u00adva\u00adtion tow\u00ader with a&nbsp;fire bowl.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The cer\u00ade\u00admo\u00adni\u00adal lay\u00ading of the foun\u00adda\u00adtion stone took place on June 14, 1914, short\u00adly before the out\u00adbreak of the First World War. Due to the war, the con\u00adstruc\u00adtion work could not be ful\u00adly com\u00adplet\u00aded and as no fur\u00adther work was car\u00adried out until 1929, the tow\u00ader was in dan\u00adger of falling into disrepair.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>On July 12, 1929, the chair\u00adman of the Bal\u00adlen\u00adst\u00adedt branch of the Harzk\u00adlub, H\u00f6hne, who had also been a&nbsp;mem\u00adber of the work\u00ading com\u00admit\u00adtee 15&nbsp;years pre\u00advi\u00adous\u00adly, took up a&nbsp;sug\u00adges\u00adtion made by dis\u00adtrict direc\u00adtor Pietsch\u00ader. He had sug\u00adgest\u00aded that the Harzk\u00adlub branch asso\u00adci\u00ada\u00adtion should com\u00adplete the obser\u00adva\u00adtion tow\u00ader and make it acces\u00adsi\u00adble to the gen\u00ader\u00adal pub\u00adlic. The orig\u00adi\u00adnal design was mod\u00adi\u00adfied and sim\u00adpli\u00adfied by the con\u00adstruc\u00adtion man\u00adag\u00ader, gov\u00adern\u00adment and build\u00ading coun\u00adcil\u00adlor Dr. Ehrlich, so that the tow\u00ader could be inau\u00adgu\u00adrat\u00aded on May 20,&nbsp;1931.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>After the Sec\u00adond World War and dur\u00ading the GDR era, the tow\u00ader was left to decay and had to be closed due to dam\u00adage in the&nbsp;1960s.<\/p>\n\n<p>After the polit\u00adi\u00adcal change, the tow\u00ader was ren\u00ado\u00advat\u00aded in 1994\/ 1995 with state funds and the view\u00ading plat\u00adform can be accessed via an inter\u00adnal staircase.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The tow\u00ader can be reached from Opper\u00adode via the cir\u00adcu\u00adlar route around the Stahlsberg.<\/p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Bis\u00admar\u00adck Tow\u00ader is locat\u00aded south of the Bal\u00adlen\u00adst\u00adedt dis\u00adtrict of Opper\u00adode on the Stahls\u00adberg (270&nbsp;m&nbsp;above sea&nbsp;lev\u00adel).
