In the mid\u00addle of the 13th cen\u00adtu\u00adry, Count Hoy\u00ader II von Falken\u00adstein extend\u00aded the cas\u00adtle com\u00adplex by adding the palas, the ken\u00adnels and oth\u00ader fortifications.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How\u00adev\u00ader, the count became less famous as a&nbsp;builder than as a&nbsp;patron of the legal expert Eike von Rep\u00adgow. Accord\u00ading to leg\u00adend, he com\u00adplet\u00aded the \u201cSach\u00adsen\u00adspiegel\u201d, the most impor\u00adtant Ger\u00adman-lan\u00adguage law book of the Mid\u00addle Ages, on the Falkenstein.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1323, Bur\u00adchard V&nbsp;took over the Falken\u00adstein inher\u00adi\u00adtance. How\u00adev\u00ader, as his mar\u00adriage remained child\u00adless, he decid\u00aded to take a&nbsp;momen\u00adtous step and trans\u00adferred Falken\u00adstein and all its acces\u00adsories to the Bish\u00adopric of Hal\u00adber\u00adstadt in&nbsp;1332.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On his death in 1334, the male line of the Counts of Falken\u00adstein became extinct.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After around one hun\u00addred years of epis\u00adco\u00adpal rule, the lords of Asse\u00adburg Cas\u00adtle took over the com\u00adplex in 1437. Their inten\u00adsive build\u00ading activ\u00adi\u00adty in the 15th to 17th cen\u00adturies still char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adizes the image of the Falken\u00adstein today, but retains its basic medieval character.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parts of the Falken\u00adstein were already open to vis\u00adi\u00adtors in the 19th cen\u00adtu\u00adry. In the spir\u00adit of Roman\u00adti\u00adcism, the cas\u00adtle now attract\u00aded numer\u00adous hik\u00aders who dis\u00adcov\u00adered the Falken\u00adstein as an ide\u00adal knight\u2019s cas\u00adtle and were inspired by&nbsp;it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of the Sec\u00adond World War, the von der Asse\u00adburg fam\u00adi\u00adly fled from the advanc\u00ading Red Army troops to the west\u00adern ter\u00adri\u00adto\u00adries of Ger\u00admany. As a&nbsp;result of the war, they were expro\u00adpri\u00adat\u00aded in East Ger\u00admany as part of the \u201cland reform\u201d. The Falken\u00adstein passed into state ownership.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As ear\u00adly as April 1, 1946, Kastel\u00adlan Henne reopened the cas\u00adtle to tourists \u2014 now as Muse\u00adum Burg Falken\u00adstein. Today\u2019s Sax\u00adony-Anhalt Cul\u00adtur\u00adal Foun\u00adda\u00adtion took over the prop\u00ader\u00adty in 1996 and the oper\u00ada\u00adtion of the muse\u00adum in&nbsp;1998.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.burg-falkenstein.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Falken\u00adstein Castle<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The best start\u00ading point for a&nbsp;hike to Falken\u00adstein Cas\u00adtle is the offi\u00adcial \u201cGarten\u00adhaus\u201d park\u00ading lot on the coun\u00adtry road between Meis\u00addorf and Pans\u00adfelde.
